With a 2017 departure firmly set for the world’s first ever circumnavigation of the globe on a scooter and sidecar and planning having been well in motion for a over a year, we decided that we would need some sort of practice before hand.
Obviously, with Reece being as street wise as Alan Partridge and Matt having the body physique of David Brent we are well prepped for what is to come. But to give a slight taster we have decided to celebrate the official launch of our fundraising campaign by embarking upon a UK tour. We’ll be travelling from London to John O’Groats via Lands End and back to London again, on 125cc bikes in the depths of winter – that’s almost as bonkers as the expedition itself.
So, on the 7th of December we will be setting out on this ridiculous UK tour, testing our mettle in freezing cold conditions and reporting on our progress from all corners of the UK. The tour is going to take us through some of the harshest environments that the UK has to offer such as Dartmoor National Park (notoriously used to train the SAS), the Scottish Highlands (where temperatures reach lows of -15) and Newcastle (where the sun hasn’t shined in 14 years). On route we will be staying with friends and family occasionally but for places not covered we will be pitching a tent and braving the great outdoors – which is something new to Reece who hasn’t been out of his comfort zone since 2007 when he tried a Chilli Con Carne Frey Bentos pie, rather than his usual Steak and Ale.
You could argue, why are we not doing this trip on our scooter and sidecar. Well, in true As Seen From the Sidecar fashion, we don’t have a sidecar. Oh, and neither of us have a license to drive one. Don’t worry though, thanks to the ongoing support from Metropolis motorcycles, we’re sure to bridge that gap in early 2017.
In between freezing our tits off and getting horribly lost, we will be visiting schools, community centres and business spreading our message and raising much needed awareness and funds for the fight against modern day slavery.
Ultimately, the UK tour is going to be just a taster of what is to come, both for us and you. We will blog from all across the UK telling the honest truth of just how we’re feeling, document our progress and report what we learn as best we can whilst coming to terms with what is ahead. We’re super excited and cant wait to get on the road and hope it will encourage everyone to donate and help us to really kick start our fundraising campaign for the real thing…
